Assalamu'alaikum,
Selepas Solat di Masjid Zahir, kami ke tempat wajib di Alor Setar iaitu Pekan Rabu. Beli sikit barang, yang pertamanya kuih-muih Melayu. Yang keduanya barang-barang yang tidak ada di sekitar Lembah Klang. Banyak jenis kopiah, jadi beli juga untuk anak lelaki, ada sulam tertulis Kedah Sejahtera dalam Tulisan Jawi. Barang utama di Pekan Rabu terdiri daripada:
- Kuih-muih tradisional Melayu
- Pakaian - Baju Melayu, kain ela, songkok, kopiah, telekung, tudung dll.
- Barang keperluan rumah - Periuk, kuali, tudung saji dll.
- Kitab-kitab agama
- Permainan budak-budak
- Barangan kesihatan dan herba
- Gerai makan-minum
Hamba pernah terlibat dengan 'pembangunan Pekan Rabu' sewaku menuntut di Utara Tanahair. Kami terlibat membantu satu institut untuk melatih peniaga-peniaga di Pekan Rabu dalam bidang pengurusan, pemasaran dan sebagainya. Ada bajet khas dari Jabatan Perdana Menteri untuk melatih peniaga-peniaga Melayu di Pekan Rabu. Kami juga bawa rombongan peniaga ini ke Kuala Lumpur untuk melihat bagaimana usahawan di kotaraya berniaga. Itu semua menjadi satu pengalaman dan kenangan manis bagaimana mengubah sikap peniaga di Pekan Rabu. Setelah lebih 20 tahun, hamba kira peniaga-peniaga di Pekan Rabu perlu berubah. Pekan Rabu perlu berubah dan para peniaganya perlu berubah. Contohnya kedai buku, perlu diubahsuai rekabentuk dalaman dan ditambah buku-buku yang terkini. Kita perlu berfikir untuk berubah dan bertindak untuk berubah. Dalam perniagaan, tiada istilah kekal statik kecuali untuk sebahagian kecil perniagaan yang berkaitan dengan barang antik, barang unik dan beberapa barang lain. Setelah menghabiskan sedikit masa ke sini, kami ke Kuala Kangsar, Perak. wassalam.
Pekan Rabu
"Pekan Rabu" which literally means Wednesday Market which is located in the middle of Alor Setar is well known among the local population and tourists from outside Kedah. The business complex is not only the pride of Malay entreprenuers in Kedah but also the pride of all Malay's in Kedah. Moreover the fourth Malaysian Prime Minister, Tun Dr. Mahathir, once was a trader in Pekan Rabu. Most tourists visiting Alor Setar make it a point to shop around at the Pekan Rabu Complex.

The complex costing RM 3.2 millions and was built in 1975 and renovated in 1995 with cost RM 6.5 millions. Phase 2 complex was built in 1990 with cost RM 2 millions. Pekan Rabu complex has 347 stalls with a variety of business and it has become one of the important landmarks of Alor Setar.
This shopping Complex which is situated in Jalan Tunku Ibrahim was officially opened on 25th. February 1978. Prior to the construction of this complex, the traders did their business in on open building with no walls and trading stalls were not properly arranged and scattered.
